Skiing deadlier than snowboarding...

So apparently skiing is way more deadly than snowboarding is...
So all you snowboarders who think you are hard shit daredevils think once again....according to a study by the National Ski Areas Association in America found that snowboarders were a third less likely to die than skiers on the slopes.  Skiers are less likely to get small injuries like a skateboarder would...but more likely to die...dammmnnn....Researchers say that it is because skiers travel much faster and are more likely to hit a tree than a snowboarder is.  Snowboarders are 50-70% more likely to get injured than a skier, however.

Be safe fellow skiers!

Skiing's Biggest Stories in 2010

CR Johnson - the name is even hard to say.  One of freeskiings pioneers.  He helped bring freeskiing to the level it is at today.  We lost CR in February after he sustained a fatal fall off a cliff while attempting to jump at Squad Valley.  His loss is still felt among the ski community.  We miss you CR!

CR

Olympic Countdown - the countdown continues as the ski community awaits to see if ski slopestyle and ski halfpipe will be a part of the 2014 Olympics.  In June the FIS Congress (the olympic voters) voted unanimously in support of ski halfpipe.  Keep showing your support and watch this sport continue to grow!

Jon Olsson - known for his huge big air tricks and x games medals, Jon Olsson hushed his critics as he qualified for his World Cup race this December in ski racing.  Olsson made the transition from a pipe skier to ski racing, which is basically unheard of in the skiing community.  Way to go Jonny!!

Webisodes - 2010 was the year of the webisode.  For the first time ever, a Best Webisode category was introduced at the 2010 IF3 Freeskiing Film Festival.   Line's Traveling Circus won the prize.  You can now basically purchase and download all ski videos right on your computer.  Salomon and Line have been most successful in with these webisodes, check them out!

Landing Pads! - giant air bags in the terrain parks started showing up a few years ago, but 2010 was a huge step forward for these pads.  Mammoth Ski Resort became the first in North America to install a permanent landing pad in their park.  This is sick now everyone can get good like proooos!

Arne Backstrom - this guy was incredible...great guy both on and off the slopes.  Unfortunately Arne died in 2010 while skiing Peru's 18,871 Nevado Pisco.  He was 29 years old and the ski community will definitely miss him.  Thanks Arne for everything.

Kent Kreitler is baccckkkk

Kent has been away from skiing for 2 years now...he kinda just disappeared and no one really knew what happened to him...but he's back....he found the Buddhist religion after losing a good friend skiing off the edge of a cliff.

Kent will be guiding heli tours across the backcountry of Alaska...

Good to have you back Kent

For those of you that don't know Kent :

Camelbak newb

Apparently I am a Camelbak newb....a friend of mine had a Camelbak the last time I went skiing and I thought it was a great idea.  I knew I had an old Camelbak from when I used to go mountain biking so I grabbed that filled it up with water and ....the shit froze on me...

I kept looking at others baks and I couldn't figure out what the difference was...so I asked.

The diff is simple...the cord freezes while the water in the pack on your back doesn't.  So they make special thermal kits from winter time.

Take a look at the summer edition.  So you can make sure you DON'T buy this for the winter.

This is the one you WANT TO BUY!! :

Notice the cord is protected so it won't freeze...ya digg

Word

Slow start to blogging today...sorry!  Been busy lovin tahoe

Only skied a half-day today...my legs are shottt - just did backside, and some lookout mtn action.

Went to Burger Me! for lunch.  It's a small burger joint located on the very edge of the downtown Truckee strip.  They were featured in Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives on the Food Network.  They have amazing burgers, delicious fries, and bomb onion rings.

Sounds like he's making a full recovery while staying positive and upbeat about his devastating knee injury.  Hope to have him back soon!

X Games: Bottles and Models

Tanner hasn't been slackin on his time off.  He has started a record company and a film company and continues to pursue things he loves.  Just another great example of someone loving what they do for a livin...shit getting paid to ski is a dope ass job if you ask me.

got some new shiett

Picked me up a new helmet with wired audio in the helmet and a sick ass new pair of goggles.

The helmet is certified, so if it breaks they fix it for free.

The goggles are blacked out so no one can see my eyes :-)

Look at em here:

sickkkk.

WHAT UP SKIERS

Just got back from the mountain.   Great day of skiing today.  The snow was still great and not a lot of lines.  It stayed cold most of the day, so the snow should still be good tomorrow.

Went on a few new runs today.  I usually stay out of the trees because my skis are hood and don't handle the fluffy powder like these new skis.  I did hit up the Monument and Sugarpine Glades today.. they were a bit rough and torn up...looks like we need more snow!

Check out the map here and see whatelse Northstar can offer.

They also have a sick park.

Check it:

Thanks Northstar for making me happy!

Northstar 8 am

Waken up early is the way to go. It's 8 am and this is what it looks like outside:

A little overcast and a little cold, but the norm for Tahoe during winter.  Now I just get to go outside and wait for the bus to pick me up!
